Project: ProtoHype

Worklog: Here
There's some awesome engineering going on this month and a definite contender for the title is The_Gnu's effort called Project: ProtoHype. Like Limey also featured this month, there are some eye popping renders being flashed around in The_Gnu's project log and also like Limey, he's making good on his claims and we have more hardware being made on the machines.
Whilst we've seen some great hard disk mounts elsewhere this month, the optical drive cover featured in Project: ProtoHype one of the most fabulous we've seen. With such great execution of the original renders, we can only imagine how awesome the finished PC will be. Definitely one to watch.
Early plans included some drawings of the various concepts included in the mod and some very interesting looking renders of a PC bulging with strange bolt ons and port holes. It certainly looks unique and we're itching to see the case come together, especially as it will be water-cooled.
The case was the first thing to come in to form with the frame's components being laid out ready for construction. We also spotted an early render of the optical drive cage which has caught so many people's eyes, including ours. This certainly isn't a case of the final product looking worse than than the initial render - quite the opposite in fact.
Above is the finished optical drive cage. What a fantastic bit of kit! Perfect balance between clean looks, shiny chrome and a glowing interior. If the rest of Project: ProtoHype shapes up like this then we're in for a treat.
Above are a few recent images from The_Gnu's project log with some updates of how the case is progressing. Very well from the looks of things with much of the frame complete and just missing some side panels and other external bits.
